If you are terminally ill, it is certainly worth spending time on. And even if you aren&#8217;t there are still several things below which you could do.<\/p>\n<p>Doing our admin helps ensure that your wishes are known\u2014whether that\u2019s who should make decisions on your behalf if you&#8217;re no longer able to, or what kind of music you\u2019d like at your funeral. It can offer real peace of mind, knowing that the people you care about won\u2019t be left with guesswork or confusion at an already difficult time.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"609\" data-end=\"655\">To get started, you\u2019ll need just two things:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"656\" data-end=\"843\">\n<li data-start=\"656\" data-end=\"746\">\n<p data-start=\"658\" data-end=\"746\">A box file\u2014label it something clear like <em data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"710\">Death Box<\/em> so it\u2019s easy to find when needed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"747\" data-end=\"843\">\n<p data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"843\">A notebook\u2014it\u2019s worth choosing a good one, as it will hold important and personal information.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"845\" data-end=\"892\">There are five key areas I\u2019ll walk you through:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"1151\">\n<li data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"933\">\n<p data-start=\"897\" data-end=\"933\"><a href=\"#Digitallegacy\">Your digital legacy and life admin<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"934\" data-end=\"963\">\n<p data-start=\"937\" data-end=\"963\"><a href=\"#statement\">Your statement of wishes<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"994\" data-end=\"1057\">\n<p data-start=\"997\" data-end=\"1057\"><a href=\"#dna\">Your DNACPR (Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1058\" data-end=\"1111\">\n<p data-start=\"1061\" data-end=\"1111\"><a href=\"#adrt\">Your ADRT (Advance Decision to Refuse Treatment)<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1112\" data-end=\"1151\">\n<p data-start=\"1115\" data-end=\"1151\"><a href=\"#lpa\">Your LPA (Lasting Power of Attorney)<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Digital Legacy and Life Admin<\/h2>\n<h4><strong>Social Media<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>What is going happen to all of your photos and videos? Do you want someone accessing your social media or would you prefer it to be deleted?<\/p>\n<p>You could start by putting everything in one place such as on a USB stick or on a Cloud platform, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/\">Dropbox<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\">Google Drive<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You could nominate a legacy contact for your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-gb\/102631\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple account.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Memorialise or delete a loved one&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/1111566045566400\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook <\/a>or <a href=\"https:\/\/help.instagram.com\/231764660354188\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram account.<\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Phone and Access<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>If you have fingerprint ID on your phone, ensure a next of kin has added their fingerprint too so they are able to access your phone. Add your phone PIN to your notebook along with details of your phone contract, account number and provider.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Financial<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>For all of the below, record in your notebook, reference numbers, account numbers, PINS, logins, passwords, company names and anything else that is important.<\/p>\n<p>Banks, building societies, post office, saving accounts, credit cards, ISAs, stocks, shares, bonds, crypto, investments, debts, loans and mortgages.<\/p>\n<p>Remember insurances: house, car, health and life.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Income<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Add your national insurance number to your book and details of your most recent job. If you were in the armed forces don&#8217;t forget to add your service number and regiment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>List any benefits you have been receiving.<\/p>\n<p>Add any work or private pensions. Some jobs\u00a0 provide a &#8216;death in service&#8217; pay-out add details about that if you have one.<\/p>\n<p>If you are self employed you will need to include your &#8216;government gateway ID&#8217; in addition to your &#8216;unique tax reference number&#8217;.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Statement of Wishes<\/h2>\n<p>A Statement of Wishes is a document where you write down your personal preferences and guidance for your loved ones and executors after you pass away. It\u2019s not legally binding but helps ensure that your wishes are known and respected.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>What Can Be Included?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Funeral Preferences<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your choice of burial or cremation.<\/li>\n<li>Where you want the service to be held.<\/li>\n<li>Any specific music, readings, or rituals you would like.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal Items<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Who you want to receive specific belongings, like family heirlooms or sentimental items.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Care for Dependents<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your wishes for the care of any children or dependents, including who you\u2019d like to be their guardian.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charitable Donations<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any charities you\u2019d like to donate to in your memory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Wishes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any additional guidance for managing your finances, property, or any other matters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>\u00a0<\/h5>\n<h5><strong>Why Is It Important?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>A Statement of Wishes helps guide your loved ones during a difficult time, making sure they know how you\u2019d like things handled.
